Connecting emergency accommodation in Brighton with Get Box

In partnership with frontline social inclusion charities, Citizens Online, Justlife and Diverse and Ability, we deployed our first Get Box trial to connect nearly 30 vulnerable people in emergency accommodation in Brighton. At the start of covid-19 lockdowns, these individuals had no internet access at their accommodation, cutting them off from accessing services, entertainment and communication.

With lockdown measures meaning that many social service providers are using online platforms to share information, provide education materials and support the vulnerable, access to the internet has never been more vital. With Get Boxes installed at the property, the residents were able to get online.

“...I have little to no phone signal. This means that having internet has been crucial for contact and entertainment,” said one resident when asked how important the new connectivity was for them.

“The pilot will be an amazing way for them to access support, speak with family and friends and keep entertained,” said the CEO of Justlife, Simon Gale.
