We’re looking for a passionate Senior Project Associate to help us build a future where internet access is available to communities around the world that need it the most.

Details of the role

We are looking for a Senior Project Associate to help manage our growing number of projects around the world, establishing partnerships to help connect and empower people to make the best use of our technology. You should be a thoughtful people-person, with a passion for social impact and experience in project delivery. You will enjoy your independence, as well as working collaboratively with our rapidly growing team.

If you’re the successful candidate, you will play a key role in growing Jangala’s impact on the ground. Every day you’ll speak to our partners and onboard new ones, from grassroots groups to major aid organisations like UNICEF and UNRWA; work with our tech teams to make our solution the best it can be; as well as gathering content and carrying out research, monitoring and evaluation to report on impact and improve our services. The role offers potential for a midcareer person to have hands-on project experience in the humanitarian sector, as well as working at an exciting start-up with big ambitions to deliver impact on a huge scale.

The salary for this role will be £32,000 to £36,500 depending on experience, supplemented by a company-wide bonus scheme and access to our shadow employee ownership scheme as the trading arm of Jangala is established. We plan for salaries at Jangala to grow alongside our positive impact on the world and our levels of responsibility and oversight.

Candidate requirements

Essential

  • 3+ years of experience of project delivery

    Excellent written and verbal communications skills

    Knowledge and understanding of the humanitarian and development sectors

    A desire to contribute to and grow with a small start-up with huge potential

    Fast learner with the ability to rapidly develop an understanding of Jangala’s work and its technology

Desirable

  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation best practices

  • Line management experience and experience of leading a team

  • Experience of change management or process development

  • Proficiency in further languages (including but not limited to Arabic/French/Hindi)

  • Experience of using social media, digital communication tools, and CRM systems

  • Research experience

  • Willingness to travel

Working with Jangala

Jangala’s office is based in London and operates a remote-first working policy. Travel to our London office will be required for brainstorming and collaborative work at least once a fortnight.

Primary responsibilities

  • Project delivery (65%): Build and deliver projects to help our partners get connected around the world. 

  • Leading:

    • Sourcing new partners to lay the foundation for Jangala to connect millions of people and marginalised communities over the coming years

    • Working with major aid agencies such as UNICEF, War Child, UNRWA to establish partnership to deliver our work at scale

    • Carrying out site assessments and due diligence with new partners to assess and onboard charities and grassroots groups with which to deploy our systems

    • Making decisions about what technology to deploy, with the help of our support team, and liaising with our logistics team to oversee the delivery of our systems

    • Carrying out surveys and collating network data to understand the impact of our work

    • Tracking project progress, KPIs and updating internal systems, sharing reports with the rest of the team

  • Supporting: 

    • Triaging technical issues in the field, and working with our hardware and software team to remedy them remotely or recall systems

    • Working with our Head of Operations to build a strategy to expand the scope of our work, sourcing new schools, clinics and community resilience projects to work with, and investigate new and exciting areas for Jangala to support

    • Impact reporting, including contributing to our Annual Report, alongside our fundraising team

    • Building upon current project delivery architecture to refine processes of onboarding, managing and monitoring projects

  • Strategy and organisational support (30%):

    • Leading: 

      • Implementation of Jangala’s outreach strategy

      • Scoping Jangala’s expansion into new application areas across the SDGs, building internal capacity to support these projects. This includes:

        • Establishing a framework to launch pilots in new areas and sectors, including understanding project needs, opportunities, benchmarking internal capacity, and product development

        • Looking for new and diverse ways to engage Jangala in climate change and environmental programming

        • Building relationships with stakeholders, major NGO and strategic partners to fulfil Jangala’s mission to work across the SDGs

        • Work with colleagues in Fundraising to identify relevant funding opportunities in new thematic areas

    • Supporting:

      • Organisation-wide strategic projects and meetings

  • Communications (5%): 

    • Supporting:

      • Sourcing rich photos, quotes and content from our partners for use on the website, in external media and for reporting to our donors and followers
