Jangala welcomes Arm volunteers for Build A Box Day
Jangala was delighted to welcome guests from our valued corporate partner Arm Ltd., for a volunteering experience unique to Jangala: Build A Box Day. Over the course of two days, we had two groups of six to the Jangala workshop, helping us assemble our Big Box Wi-Fi devices, ready to deploy to underserved communities across the world.
For those of you not familiar, Big Box is a lightweight briefcase-sized device that transforms any form of internet connectivity into Wi-Fi that is easy to manage and scale, from tens to thousands of users. From our workshop in Walthamstow we deploy them all over the world - to SOLE Columbia, Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, to remote schools in India with ALIG and PHASE Nepal Healthcare clinics in the Himalayas.
Big Box is powered by Arm-licensed microchips, Arm has also funded the research & development of Big Box from prototype to our Big Box Version 1 which will be capable of mass manufacturer. Enabling us to scale our operations from connecting thousands of people to the internet to millions of people by 2028.
Build A Box Days are a hands-on learning and volunteering opportunity, where volunteers come together to make Big Boxes under the guidance of our hardware team, including our Co-Founder & Head of Manufacturing Samson Rinaldi, and Industrial Engineer Veer Ramjoorawon.
“I had a great day last Friday while volunteering with Jangala. We were working on building Big Boxes, which are essentially internet boxes, designed for deployment in remote areas, disaster-stricken regions, and during emergencies. These boxes provide vital internet access to people in need of urgent humanitarian aid or long-term development assistance. The Jangala team was fantastic, and it was amazing to be part of such a noble cause that helps connect people in need". - Arm Volunteer
A big thankyou to Arm for supporting Jangala and coming along to make Big Boxes. We look forward to updating you on where we have deployed them and the difference they are making to people’s lives in underserved and marginalised communities - bringing internet connectivity to the most amazing places.
