A Milestone for Jangala: Big Box Version 1

On June 13th, we had a brilliant demo day, where we showcased the bench prototype of Big Box Version 1 at Arm’s headquarters in Cambridge. This is a milestone in Big Box's journey as it marked the culmination of over a year’s hard work and collaboration with Arm and Cambridge Consultants.

Arm has been an integral part of Jangala’s journey from the very beginning, as we power Big Box with Arm’s Cortex-A72, Cortex-A53, and Cortex-M0+ core. One of our earliest supporters, Arm has fast become Jangala’s research and development champion with continued investment through their Social Impact Grant.

Arm’s Social Impact Grant aims to tackle inequalities through technology, and Big Box aligns perfectly with this mission, providing a connectivity solution for some of the world’s most excluded communities. Arm and Jangala share the core belief that we cannot have an equal world without equal access to the internet.

Last year, Arm’s donation brought us closer to a significant milestone of a bench prototype, bringing Big Box closer to at-scale manufacturing, and enabling us to shift from connecting tens of thousands to our goal of #4MillionConnected by 2030. In 2024/2025,  Arm continue to accelerate the development of Big Box with financial support to expand our technology resources, and put in place the processes needed to manufacture and distribute at scale.

Thank you to Arm’s Social Impact and Innovation team: Fran Baker, Rosalie Tribe and Prowess Chukkas; and to Arm engineers who have lended us their time and expertise this year: Pawel Moll, Dominik Krzemiński and Fabrice Sayer-Gasnier; Cambridge Consultant’s Head of Industrial Robotics Chris Roberts, and Jangala Trustee & Technologist Bijal (Bee) Hayes-Thakore.
