Details of the role
We are looking for an IT Support and Logistics Associate to support and empower our partners to build quality Wi-Fi networks and get people connected. You will provide the logistics support required for our equipment to reach our partners around the world in a speedy and confident manner, as well as project support to our Global and UK projects team where required.
As part of our projects team, you will be working to support initiatives around the world, from schools in Uganda and Ghana, to healthcare clinics in South Africa and Nepal, charities in the UK and India and many more. From grassroots groups supporting refugees to major aid organisations like Unicef to local government bodies like Coventry Council, you’ll be helping them get online using Jangala’s innovative technology.

You will be excited about the prospect of working across various critical processes to ensure our partners are supported and receive the equipment they need to carry out vital work.
Every day, you’ll work with our partners to help them set up their Jangala Wi-Fi networks so they can get online to deliver their work, from healthcare delivery to emergency response and education. You’ll help with capacity building, both for our project partners through our setup process, training, technical support and troubleshooting, as well as for our product and projects teams, to help us improve our solution and connect more people. You’ll prepare packages for dispatch in our London workshop and storage spaces, ensure they are processed in a timely manner and liaise with customs organisations around the world to ensure our products arrive safely. As a member of Jangala’s project team you’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in other areas of the project cycle, such as the monitoring and evaluation of our projects.
If you’re the successful candidate, you will play a key role in increasing Jangala’s impact on the ground and ensuring the smooth running of our operations. You will learn about Jangala’s technology as well as the areas in which we work. A good grasp of both will be important in supporting our projects on the ground, who face huge challenges in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
This role offers potential for someone with a background in IT, IT support and/or logistics support, ideally in an international context or in the charity sector. We would also welcome candidates looking to switch sectors and that have ambitions in the humanitarian and development sectors. It offers a rare opportunity to work with global humanitarian aid, emergency response teams and development partners, as well as working at an exciting start-up with big ambitions to deliver impact on a huge scale.
The salary for this role will be £28,000 to £32,000 depending on experience, supplemented by the company wide bonus scheme of up to 7.5% and access to our shadow employee ownership scheme as the trading arm of Jangala is established. We plan for salaries at Jangala to grow alongside our positive impact on the world and our levels of responsibility and oversight.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical/IT support (40%)
Provide first-line support to Jangala partners, helping them build Wi-Fi networks in challenging contexts around the world
Provide ongoing capacity building and support to our project partners, to ensure they are making the most of their networks, expanding them and improving quality
Providing troubleshooting and technical support to our partners via a number of channels
Reviewing and analysing complex technical information to define problems, draw conclusions and provide solutions to technical problems
Working with our project team to carry out site surveys and establish the equipment needs of our project partners
Day-to-day administration of our support platforms
Liaising with hardware and software teams to resolve technical issues and provide feedback that improves Jangala’s equipment
Collaborating with Project Delivery Lead to develop procedures and documentation that improve Jangala’s service offering and partner capabilities
Projects support (20%)
Supporting with onboarding of new project partners
Supporting M&E activities where relevant
Dispatch (40%)
Leading on the national and international dispatch / export of Jangala equipment
Ensuring equipment is packed and dispatched against orders in an efficient and timely manner.
Arranging and tracking collections and shipping and dealing with delivery queries
Managing relationships with couriers and shipping partners, processing exports including preparing shipping documents and liaising with customs clearance bodies
Ensuring collection, maintenance and management of all data related to shipping, customs and stock
Collaborating with Project Delivery Lead in the development of relevant procedures and practices.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant import regulations and procedures.
Candidate requirements
Essential
Demonstrable experience in providing technical or IT support using excellent verbal and written communication skills, both with internal colleagues and external parties
Demonstrable experience using CRM or support desk software.
Strong organisation skills, able to prioritise and progress a range of issues
Desirable
Experience in configuring, monitoring and installing network components such as routers, switches and wireless access points
Knowledge and understanding of networking and firewalls
Experience in international trade/logistics (shipping, exports, imports)
Experience working with forwarding agents
Knowledgeable of customs clearances processes or exports to different countries (including Middle East, Africa, South America)
Experience working with charities/NGOs
Experience producing technical specifications, operational documentation, work tools and reports.
Experience of database administration
A valid driver’s licence
Working with Jangala
Jangala’s office and workshop is based in London and the role will require regular attendance to lead on dispatch of Jangala equipment and management of our stockroom. Outside of this, the employee will be able to work remotely.
