Wi-Fi for emergency responders welcoming incoming boats, Greece

The majority of refugees arriving by boat from Turkey to Lesvos will spend their first night in Europe at the remote UNHCR-operated Stage 2 camp. Before Big Box was installed at Stage 2, residents had no way of accessing the internet at a critical time in their process of applying for asylum or organising onwards travel.

The day-to-day management of this camp is the responsibility of our partners at Lighthouse Relief, who do critical round-the-clock emergency response work that responds to boats arriving in Greece. They provide shelter, nutrition, water and emergency medical support, and organise transport for refugees to travel to the nearest camps where they can register and rest.

Their work is responsive, depending on the boats that arrive to the beaches – and Big Box is on hand when they need it.
