Connectivity for asylum information in Paris's informal camps
In September 2019, one of our Big Boxes went to our partner Watizat, in Paris, so that refugees can access translated information about the asylum process, and real-time information on how and where they can access essential services.
In Paris, many refugees are waiting to submit their asylum claims or for their claims to be processed - a wait which can take months. During this period, there is no accommodation to house refugees and, even after claiming asylum, only 50% of asylum seekers are provided with temporary accommodation.
Watizat is dedicated to bridging the communication gap by creating The Asylum Seeker’s Guide in Paris and translating it into French, English, Arabic.
The Guide is distributed across informal camps by volunteers and organisations who also distribute food, clothes and provide free legal aid and medical assistance.
In September 2019, we supplied Watizat and its partner organisations with a Big Box, which they’re taking with them on their distributions to these informal camps - this means on top of distributing hard copies of The Asylum Seeker’s Guide, they will able to share it digitally. It will also provide a way for refugees to speak to their families.
