Big Box and Lenovo devices supporting delivery of online education courses in Kenya

With the support of the Lenovo Foundation, we have deployed four Big Boxes to help with the delivery of Amala’s (formerly known as Sky School) online blended learning courses in Kakuma Refugee Camp and the Kalobeyei Settlement in Kenya, and Mpaka Refugee Camp in Eswatini.

The Community Initiative for Better Life (CIBL) in the Kalobeyei Settlement, just outside Kakuma Camp, will be running Amala courses to displaced youths in social innovation, peace-building and STEM.

Kakuma Refugee Camp is home to nearly 200,000 refugees and IDPs and Kalobeyei nearly 60,000. The education facilities on the ground do not meet the needs of people in the camps, with the average length of stay 17 years.

Alongside a Big Box, CIBL received devices from the Lenovo Foundation for use by students enrolled on the Amala courses.
